OnEarth imagery access using the Meta Raster Format (MRF)

Abstract:

OnEarth, an open source software package that is a part of the NASA Global Imagery Browse Services, uses an internal image format to efficiently store and serve out georeferenced raster imagery.  This format is known as the Meta Raster Format (MRF) and it contains several features to make it highly efficient.  Through the use of an Apache module, mod_onearth, imagery requested by web clients can be rapidly accessed in the MRF data file.
