3)      Individual Name Spiral - Ted

Notes:

1)      New meeting time – 3rd Thursday of the month at 2pm EST

2)      Winter meeting recap

·         Had 6 sessions – Earth system (GCMD, ECHO), 2 granule (Ed and HDF), and 2 OpenSearch (service metadata and discovery metadata)

·         Steve Richards – ISO for services – metadata for humans- relies on capabilities documents (OPeNDAP doesn’t have capabilities document)

·         Ted (countered) – ISO service metadata – metadata for machines

·         Discovery metadata – Sky – services – USGS tools, Ted – metadata improvements, Anna – NCAT…

·         HDF – granule – HDF-EOS

·   Lack of HDF-ESOS in archives

·         There were lots of ISO metadata examples – NGDC, USGS, …

·         Swell of applications of ISO

·         Show how to use it more effectively

·         (Ed)granule discovery – 2 application of ESIP OpenSearch – JPL’s PODDAC and Lynus – Giovanni and Simple subset

·         Include ISO metadata

·         Tag of granules for event searches

·         Visualization – NASA “get” project

·         Lots of application of OpenSearch – has challenges but making progress

·         Upload power points on commons (Kelly)

·         (Ted) – slide share – and then imbed in commons – same ideas as (Aron – 1st plenary) for sharing data

3)      Strategic Plan

·         (Anna) – brief overview of commons/wiki/websites…

·         Ranked by interactivity – google doc/ wiki/commons (publication), website (esipfed.org)

·         ACDD

·         Jeremy (in UK) version 2.0 (group approach) ideas not focus as much on 1.2 (flat approach)

·         Derrick Snowden – is he the chair of the ACDD committee

·   Not sure who is actively involved

·         ACTION – Ted email Doc list about ACDD 1.2 involvement

·         (John) – thought 2.0 didn’t have much interest in the short term

·   (Ted) – interest is community dependent

·   NASA started to move from C to HDF – using groups

·         ISO 19115-1 wiki

·         The question is where to create the content

·   ESIP wiki – more open – broaden community J

·   NOA wiki

·   Earth Data NASA wiki

·         (Ed) – is there a logistics issue with migrating to a new wiki

·   (Ted) – not sure how much needs to be migrated – (Anna) – not migrating

·         NOAA wiki has some notes

·   2 kinds of contact and application model

·   1) descriptions

·   2) ISO explorer (modeled on USGS FGDC standards) – template and things like that

·         Great way to get context to examples

·         (Ed) – suggest finding a student – suggest getting some money for this

·         19157 - Provenance standard

·         Draft schema is currently out for comment

·         PROV-ES – xml created by data stewardship

·         Stacey at Woods Hole was working on an XML transformation between PROV and ISO

·         Hack-a-thon

·         Look for support

·         Translate metadata from FGDC, CHO, DIF to ISO

·         Don’t have FGDC to ISO19115-1 – need to write this

·         Need to emphasizes capabilities of 19115-1

·         (Anna) – should email other clusters

·         ACTION – Anna and Kelly will take lead on this

·         Metadata of the Month club

·         Ideas for speakers

·   John – marine OS

·   John Kozima – WMO (ACTION – Anna) - ? maybe for Feb 20th

·   USGS – ACTION – Ben will follow up

·   Libraries – Andrew Johnson @ CU (Action – Ted)

4)      Metadata of the Month – Ted – Responsible Party

·         Role – what this person does is part of the responsible Party object

·         Bound to individual or organization

·         Limit repeat of a person

·         In ISO 19115-1

·         Responsible parties becomes Responsibility – role by itself and add extent

·         Party is separate from Role – able to refer to party regardless of role person holds

·         Helps with reusable content

Actions:

already done all of these... just make sure we find the next few "metadata of the month"
