Alternative Applications of OpenSearch for Science Data Search: Fitting the Pieces Together

Abstract/Agenda:

OpenSearch-based protocols for searching Earth Science data are now reaching critical mass.  Besides ESIP, OGC has an OpenSearch specification and CNES is using OpenSearch as well. Inclusion of OpenSearch support in commercial products such as ESRI Geoportal looks promising.  And OpenSearch clients continue to bloom, one of the latest being the CEOS Water Portal.

CEOS has started an effort to survey the various uses of OpenSearch in the Earth Observation community and pull together Best Practices from the various frameworks. We'll look at the various forms, their similarities and differences, advantages, etc.

The Agenda Is:

  • OpenSearch in CEOS (15 min):  Yoshiyuki Kudo, JAXA, and CEOS Water Portal Developer
  • The Server-side Perspective (15 min): Doug Newman (ECHO)
  • OpenSearch Services at NSIDC (15 min): Ruth Duerr
  • Discussion (30 min):
    • Planning a codecamp for the different OpenSearches?
    • TBD
