MBLWHOI Library and GeoLink: Linking Geoscience Data and Publications Across Organizations and Repositories

Abstract:

The Woods Hole Open Access Server (WHOAS) is a DSpace repository, maintained by the MBLWHOI Library. WHOAS is open to researchers in the Woods Hole science community. Thousands of valuable resources have been added to the collection, but have been largely disconnected from the relevant resources available in other repositories, such as BCO-DMO and Rolling Deck to Repository (R2R). GeoLink, an NSF EarthCube Building Block, is working to create a lightweight, easy to implement semantic structure that can bring together Geoscience repositories using the web as the API, creating a machine-readable relationship between a thesis in WHOAS, a dataset in BCO-DMO, the relevant underway data in R2R, and the funding awards from NSF. Once in place, GeoLink will offer a powerful framework for searching across repositories, organizations, and disciplines.
